Facilities
HPCS has a strong technical and compliance track record together with proven
project management ability which combines to deliver the best overall package
for facilities and new builds.
After years of assisting clients in ‘fixing and troubleshooting’ on new builds
to ensure delivery of expectations of the user requirements and regulatory
compliance required, we are now ideally placed to assist clients to ‘get it
right up front’. Many problems ‘built into’ new facilities by lack of thought or
process knowledge can never be designed out again cost effectively, but this
remains a classical and common dilemma for many companies across the industry.
Process Mapping
Beginning with a detailed process map and definition involving all disciplines
ensures that the facility is designed around the process rather than the other
way around. As with all of our Project activities, this attention to detail up
front delivers the most cost effective, user friendly and regulatory compliant
solution. In some cases this process map needs to be built on very little data,
e.g. for a new product which has never yet been scaled up. Our experience in new
product introduction and product transfer projects helps to deliver the project
definition required.
This process map is the backbone of the project definition and will develop into
a more complete picture as the project delivers. On projects that deliver right
through to a validated process the process map will be a live document
throughout the project and will not only deliver the right facility but also the
right services / utilities capacity to avoid any production limitations. The
process map will challenge all stages of the process looking at work flow and
also value added/non value added activities.
Process Design
We have the in-house expertise
and specialist networks to carry out detailed design and specification of
processes to ensure optimal solutions are delivered as part of successful
project outcome.
Architectural Services, Civil Works and Build.
The
architects that we have worked with over the years need an accurate project
definition and constraints document / specification to allow them to deliver the
most efficient facilities design. This will marry aesthetics, with planning
restrictions and process requirements.
Similarly, contractors perform best when they have a good , clear design and
specification, and are well managed and supported throughout the construction
phase. Misinterpretations by contractors can be very costly and threaten process
efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Utilities
Utilities requirements are often very difficult to estimate up front in a
facilities design and are a very common failure on many new builds. If utilities are not sized
properly either in terms of generation or distribution it can be a very
expensive fix later in the project and often leads to a compromise in production
flexibility due to a lack of space or time for a permanent solution. Needless to
say our experience over many years in specifying and engineering steam, water,
compressed air and other utilities has lead to a confidence that we are in the
best possible position to estimate the production requirements and the inter
requirements between services (e.g. WFI and plant steam requirements for pure
steam).
Project Management
Nowhere is strong and effective project management required more than in a new
facilities build. The number of variables are generally at their greatest
throughout the up front design and build of the facility. Control and management
of these variables is the greatest challenge to ensuring the facility is
delivered to plan. Our proven track record in strong project management in
difficult circumstances delivers here, achieving on time, on budget outcome
through detailed, up front design and planning.
