The Client:
First formulated back in 1865 by Pharmacist, James Lofthouse in the
Lancashire fishing town of Fleetwood, Fisherman’s Friends provided
relief from the coughs, colds and bronchial problems suffered by the
fishermen braving the Atlantic and Arctic oceans. Famously renowned for
their therapeutic and soothing properties, Fisherman’s Friends are sold
in more than 100 countries across the World and are available in a
variety of flavours.
With a strong heritage and World famous brand, Lofthouse of Fleetwood
continues to manufacture Fisherman’s Friend in its solid dose
manufacturing facility in Fleetwood and still remains a family run
company with a strong commitment to product quality and innovation.
Location:
Fleetwood, Lancashire, U.K.
Scope:
To devise and deliver tailored on-site Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
training for all company employees.
Project Duration:
Five one day courses delivered across three weeks.
The Project
Having engaged the Honeyman Group in the past to provide consultancy
support, Lofthouse of Fleetwood appointed Honeyman to carry out the
training because of the group’s reputation for practical, experience
based training.
Having determined the scope of training required and in order to tailor
the course, Honeyman carried out a site visit to obtain data and
photographs of the manufacturing facility, equipment and processes for
the presentations and course materials. Workshops discussing pertinent
GMP issues relating to Lofthouse of Fleetwood were devised to gain
maximum delegate participation and detailed delegate manuals prepared.
Five one day courses were delivered over the course of three weeks to
delegates from a variety of functions including production, QA,
engineering and management.
For some, the course acted as a refresher, for
other delegates who were new to their roles or the industry the course
provided a comprehensive overview of GMP.
The GMP course devised for Lofthouse of Fleetwood examined:
- Why GMP exists
- What GMP achieves
- How GMP is managed
- The impact of GMP upon the organisation
- The importance of maintaining and using
systems e.g. change control
- The need for qualification and validation
- GMP - the 5 P’s
- Communication to staff
- Overview of quality risk management
Said Mark Thompson the Honeyman Group’s Managing
Director and Principal Lecturer, “Lofthouse of Fleetwood is committed to
quality and continuous improvement and as such proactively recognises
that everyone involved in the production of Fisherman’s Friend needs to
be aware of GMP and how it specifically impacts upon their role.
Tailoring the content of a course to include organisation specific
detail regarding products, processes and procedures increases a
delegate’s ability to identify and understand how GMP impacts upon their
role and responsibilities whilst making a traditionally dry subject
interactive and interesting”.
Beverley Cliff of Lofthouse of Fleetwood commented after the course,
“Honeyman devised an engaging and relevant, value for money course that
was applicable to everyone involved regardless of their function. Those
who attended the course enjoyed the lecturer’s anecdotal experience and
knowledge and found the tailored guidance useful. Lofthouse of Fleetwood
would thoroughly recommend the Honeyman Group and look to working with
them again as and when future training requirements arise.”
