HONEYMAN GROUP TEAMS UP WITH TEESDALE SCHOOL TO
PROMOTE SCIENCE CAREERS
22/05/09
Honeyman Group, the Barnard Castle-based pharmaceutical process support
specialist, has teamed up with Teesdale School to help students develop
an interest in science.
A pair of Year 10 students, who are studying GCSE Biology, spent a week
at the Honeyman head office and laboratories discovering how an interest
in science can help them build a good career.
The students, Thomas Kent and Linden Greener, both 15, also spent some
time with the Honeyman commercial teams to gain a wider understanding of
the business.
During their week Thomas and Linden worked alongside analysts in the
Microbiology and Chemistry laboratories and had the chance to take part
in processes to identify bacteria in water samples.
Thomas also used his interest in web design to help with a review of the
Honeyman website while Linden worked with the marketing team on a direct
mail project.
Trevor Honeyman, Chairman of The Honeyman Group, said: “We are really
pleased to support Teesdale School to help give the students an
opportunity to experience life in a scientific business environment.
“This area is renowned for its pharmaceutical excellence. It is
important that we try and nurture young people and generate interest in
the sciences and keep local talent in this area.”
Tom said: “It has been a really interesting week and I particularly
enjoyed the microbiology laboratory.”
Linden said: “I’ve enjoyed working at Honeyman. It has been a good
experience and given me an idea of what the workplace is like.”
Sheila Small, Work Experience Officer at Teesdale School said: “The
support of companies like the Honeyman Group is essential to allow the
school to provide a comprehensive career’s programme.
“With so many potential career paths open to young people, through
either academic or vocational routes, it is important that our students
get the opportunity to visit and participate in a wide range of
businesses. We want to thank Honeyman for taking the time for our
students and providing the opportunity for our students and the
experience they have gained.”
