Company History

Trevor Honeyman, the founder and Chairman of the Honeyman Group, has spent all of his professional life in the pharmaceutical industry, initially spending seventeen years with GSK.

During that time, Trevor experienced life as an Analyst in the Quality Control laboratories, as a Process Development Chemist in the optimisation of Vitamin B12 manufacture, and latterly, as a Technical Development Chemist specialising in all aspects of pharmaceutical water systems.

During the ten years that Trevor spent in the latter role, he developed an influential reputation as a subject expert providing training, advice and guidance within the global group of GSK companies and to a wide range of external organisations including various regulatory bodies, the PDA and Pharmacopoeial Agencies.

In 1991, Trevor left GSK to form Honeyman Associates, a specialist consultancy business offering expertise and multi-disciplinary resources in the field of pure water systems to pharmaceutical manufacturers.  Over the next few years, Honeyman Associates were  involved in many pure water system design and build projects for companies including GSK (Ware, Barnard Castle, Montrose and Speke), Novartis, Sanofi Aventis, Amersham, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Pfizer, Reckitt Benkiser and Gerard Laboratories.

Honeyman Associates soon developed a first class reputation for their water system expertise and became synonymous with high quality project delivery, training, validation resources and laboratory analysis of water for a range of purposes including on-going monitoring and PQ qualification.  The Honeyman name became well known as independent specialists in the field of pharmaceutical water encompassing everything from raw water to point of use.

As the business expanded, Honeyman Water Ltd was formed (1997) and then accompanied by Honeyman Sterilisation Ltd (1999) following the acquisition of BDR, a well known specialist sterilisation company, which was headed up by Brian Reeks. This took Honeyman into areas beyond pure water within the pharmaceutical sector. Making use of the common ground, client base, reputation and the combined consulting experience and market presence of both businesses, training courses were consolidated and the analytical testing capability grew to include a number of supporting microbiological, endotoxin and chemical testing services which provided data of benefit to the site specialists and to clients.

In 2003, the individual Honeyman businesses were consolidated to form the Honeyman Group Ltd which was formed in order to simplify and streamline the organisation and to provide a broader platform from which a wider range of pharmaceutical process support services could be launched and developed.

Headquartered in the U.K., the Honeyman Group occupies purpose built offices and an Analytical Services Laboratory in Barnard Castle, County Durham.  In April 2010 Honeyman opened a second office and laboratory in Dublin, Ireland enabling it to offer its range of process support services to its many Irish based clients.
